FAA Authorizes Expanded Operations for Boeing Shanghai

Brief View: SHANGHAI, Nov. 24, 2009 – The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has authorized an expanded scope of airplane maintenance operations for Boeing Shanghai Aviation Services Co., Ltd (Boeing Shanghai) following an intensive three-day inspection last week that resulted in high positive inspector feedback.



 

 

 

SHANGHAI, Nov. 24, 2009 – The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has authorized an expanded scope of airplane maintenance operations for Boeing Shanghai Aviation Services Co., Ltd (Boeing Shanghai) following an intensive three-day inspection last week that resulted in high positive inspector feedback.

Boeing Shanghai initially received its FAA license allowing maintenance operations in August 2008.

“We have very ambitious plans to broaden our Boeing Shanghai capabilities and this FAA action is an important step in allowing us to pursue new business focuses on additional airplane models and an increased scope of maintenance procedure,” said Bernard Hensey, CEO, Boeing Shanghai. “This FAA authorization, combined with the recent completion and operation of our new hangar, allows Boeing Shanghai to further develop its business scope.

At the opening of the new two-bay hangar at Boeing Shanghai in October, Hensey told the several hundred attendees of his goal to operate a facility that conducts maintenance operations that provide the highest levels of quality and efficiency, while applying the latest technologies in airplane checks and repairs.

The newly approved maintenance capabilities include: “D” checks on Boeing Next-Generation 737s, “C” checks on 767s and structural “C” checks, such as S4C and higher, as well as associated repairs and alterations.

Boeing Shanghai was established in June 2006 as a joint venture of Boeing, Shanghai Airport Authorities and Shanghai Airlines. Boeing Shanghai will provide modification, maintenance, repair and overhaul services primarily to regional and international airlines as well as to domestic Chinese airlines.
