(January 22, 2008) Soon, airlines from all around the globe will be able to receive services from a world-class provider for aircraft modification and repair in Shanghai Pudong International Airport. Today Boeing Shanghai Aviation Services Co. (Boeing Shanghai), Ltd. held a ceremony for construction of its first hangar. This hangar will accommodate two wide-body aircraft.
The hangar which is expected to be fully operational in April 2009, is part of the first phase of construction for this joint venture. When the phase two facility is completed in 2010, Boeing Shanghai will have a four-bay hangar capable of housing four 747 or 777 wide-body aircraft, providing aircraft modification, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MMRO) services to help build Shanghai Pudong International Airport into an international aviation hub.
As the first MMRO venture outside the US with The Boeing Company as a majority share holder, Boeing Shanghai brings the advantage of The Boeing Company as an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to support the fast growing China market. They will help boost the MMRO capabilities of Shanghai in its drive to build a strong, viable aviation industry.
“We are excited about the opportunities offered by the exponential growth in aviation in China,” states Tim Premsalaar, CEO Boeing Shanghai, “We hope to help lead the way and continue to partner with China. Today marks an important step forward in bringing modification, maintenance, repair & overhaul capabilities to the region.”
